Starbites was born from the desire to have good and healthy appetizers at home. Several couples (engineers, doctors, and restaurant owners) joined forces and started the company. We have American and Brazilian nationals as partners.

We had good recipes to start, based on traditional home recipes, but soon learned that although they tasted good, the ingredients used were not good for our health. Below are some of our findings about the ingredients used in our appetizers.

Starbites follows a detailed HACCAP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Point Plan) approved by USDA, which assures that our product is manufactured within the most stringent quality standards. We also follow an SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) to assure that the environment is properly sanitized and employees follow rigid sanitation procedures. We have daily an USDA inspector at our plant.

Restaurants and bakeries, may offer what you call the real thing, but they do not have the controls we have, they use bromated bleached flour, fry in shortening without proper temperature control, use non organic products, ingredients with preservatives and MSG. Hygiene is another questionable point as their products are manipulated by hand. The harmful health effects are real.

We opted to make small appetizers, instead of super sizing them, so people can keep count of their calories intake while tasting various products. This of course reduces the amount of filling we can place per unit. A 30 gram unit has about 15 gram of filling. The industrial process does not allow us to use whole parts of shrimp or heart of palm, so we have to mince them, but you can be assured that the best quality product is there. We do not use potato in any of our products, it is the minced palm without additives that gave you this filling.

Our products are lab tested and we provide a complete label of nutrients, which is not available in restaurants and bakeries. We send samples for test frequently and never had a problem detected. When you eat one of our products, you know how many calories you are consuming, which are for sure much less than equivalent bakery products.

Our products came in an attractive package using a special freezer resistant carton, packaged in a food safe Ziplock, so you can use part of them and store the rest. The packages are then placed in a carton box. To ship we use a Styrofoam container, with special long duration sealed ice packages. All of this adds to the cost, so our clients can enjoy the taste and the quality of our products. The Internet package becomes effective when you buy a full box, as then the value is pro-rated and you get a better or similar price to the super-market, depending on your location.

The advantage of the frozen product is that it is available when you need it, just heat them up and you have a delicious meal.
